If you are looking for a passable shot of espresso at a decent price, the DeLonghi EC155 comes highly recommended. DeLonghi has established a reputation for quality craftsmanship, and this offering is no exception. It looks good and comes in at a reasonable price.

Users have been writing rave reviews about it, talking about how great the coffee is and how easy it is to use. The company has a really good reputation, and it seems to have the art of making authentic espressos down to a fine science.

This entry-level model is as easy on the pocket as it is on the eyes. But does the Delonghi EC155 deliver the goods? In this post, we will answer that question.

Performance/Functionality

When it comes to pure functionality, it doesn’t get much better than this. If you want to make an espresso or cappuccino, this will do that perfectly. It delivers consistent results and allows you to make the perfect cup of coffee each and every time.

It has a self-priming feature that makes it quick and easy to use – it can push out a couple of cups of coffee in a couple of minutes. That said, if you want something with a broader range of features, this is not really going to cut it for you. You have two choices – espresso or cappuccino, and that is it.

If you want to try your hand at making your coffee at home instead of spending money on expensive store-bought coffee drinks, this will be perfect for you to use.

Design/Features

This is one of the company’s most simple models. It is not something that you are going to see in a coffee shop, but it is very suitable for home use.

The EC155 is compact and has clean lines. It comes in black and has stainless steel features. It does have a milk frother but no grinder. You can, however, use pods or grinds, depending on your personal preference.

It has a smaller tank that carries up to 35 ounces of water, making it a little small if you want to make for a big bunch of people but more than adequate for one or two cups.

The built-in tamper makes this ideal for someone starting out. If you are not keen on this feature, you do have the option to do your own tampering, but you will have to buy a separate tamper.

This model does also sport the patented frothing wand that produces loads of rich and creamy foam. The wand is easy to maneuver, but you do have to take note of the size of the cup you are using. There is not as much clearance with this model, so you are better off sticking to standard cup sizes.

Ease of Use

To use this machine is extremely simple. You just add the coffee and your water, wait for less than a minute for it to boot up, and it is ready to go. The temperature reading on the front control panel lets you make sure that the temperature is perfect every time.

The operation here is simple. On the downside, there is little room for customization. While you will undoubtedly learn to perfect the art of making espresso, there is little room for more creativity as you become more confident.

You can choose to use pods if you have less time at your disposal or you can use coffee grinds. If you do plan to use grinds on a regular basis, you will need to consider investing in a good coffee grinder.

This is an extra expense, but when you consider the low cost of the machine, it is not such a big deal.

If you are starting out with brewing your own espresso, this is an excellent entry-level model. It is well made and simple to operate.

One of the significant advantages here is that it is as easy to clean as it is to operate. You will be able to figure out how to use and clean it in next to no time.

Taste

Of course, it does not matter how good the machine looks, how easy it is to operate or how low the price point is if it does not deliver great-tasting coffee. There is no need to worry on this front – the coffee comes out tasting full and flavorsome.

Is this the machine that has it all? If you are looking for a simple option for coffees on the go, an option that produces excellent results and is hassle-free. Yes.

If you want to be able to exercise your creativity a bit more, than no. Customization here is not that much of an option. It’s also not the right option if you want to also be able to make plain old filter coffee.

Is it a good buy? The price here is definitely right. It features solid engineering and a good, clean and compact design. If you love making a quick espresso, with minimal fuss and cleanup necessary, this is a good buy for you.

The long-term outlook? This is a good starter option. If you find that you enjoy making your own brews, you will probably want to upgrade at some point in the future. The price point on this means that it’s not a big deal if you want to trade up in a couple of years’ time.

For most users, however, this is going to be a great little machine that is kept in service for many years. It is a bit on the simple side, but it is well-built and robust.

What it will boil down to for you is whether or not you are willing to pay a good deal more for a bigger machine with more features. If you are a real coffee buff and eager to become a more skilled barista, it might pay to wait a while and get something a little bigger and better instead.
